All packed and ready to roll. It’s been a struggle the last few days trying to reduce the weight. I am still at 46 lbs of gear. On the bright side, I am impressed with how the bike handles the weight. I rode 53 miles last week with over 50lbs of gear. We don’t have a lot of hills here to test myself but I went from my house to Vienna, VA. There are a couple of short climbs on the W&OD and it seemed doable. I also felt really good when I was done and like I could do another 20 miles. The next morning my legs also felt strong. Still the weight is a concern.
The other night I woke up suddenly in the middle of night thinking, “What in the heck am I thinking? I just turned 70 less than two weeks ago.” But that didn’t last long. My mantra will be “Don’t let the old man in”.
I just tell myself to take it one day at a time. It’s not the riding that concerns me. It is the logistics of overnighting. I am hoping that after a few days I will get a pattern down and it will just become routine.

This will be an amazing adventure for you!! We look forward to watching you travel and hearing your stories!
I love this mantra! And yes, one day at a time is good. You’ll probably shed some weight as you go once you figure out what you do and do not really need. We’re all rooting for you!
I’ll be thinking about you. You got this! ❤️
Yay, Kim!
Yes, “don’t let the old man in!”
Looking forward to your journey.
We look forward to following along. Strength for the journey!
Good luck Kim! You can definitely do this!
